 shoot the breeze : bater papo, jogar conversa fora.

•        We spent the whole night just shooting the breeze. (Passamos a noitr toda só jogando conversa fora.).

bury the hatchet:  fazer as pazes.

•        Jonh and I buried the hatchet and we are good friends now. (João e eu fizemos as pazes e agora somos bons amigos.)

rock the boat:  complicar as coisas, bagunçar as coisas.

•        Hey, everything is going fine here. So, don’t rock the boat! (Ei, as coisas estão indo bem por aqui. Então, não complique as coisas.).

break the news:  dar uma notícia, contar uma novidade (geralmente má).

•        I’ll break the news to Maria, I’m sure she’ll understand. (Vou contar a novidade à Maria. Tenho certeza que ela vai entender.)

bite the bullet: encarar o desafio e seguir em frente.

•        I hate going to the dentist, but I suppose I’ll just have to bite the bullet. (Odeio ir ao dentista, mas creio que terei de encarar o desafio.)

cut the mustard: dar conta do recado, atender às expectativas

•        So, do you think they’ll be able to cut the mustard? (Então, você acha que eles conseguirão atender às expectativas?).

jump the gun: agir precipitadamente, agir por impulso.

•        They’ve only just met. Isn’t it jumping the gun to be talking about marriage already? (Ele mal se conheceram. Não é muito cedo para começar a falar de casamento?).

fight the traffic: encarar o trânsito.

•        Well, time to fight the traffic again! See you guys. (Bem! Hora de encarar o trânsito de novo! Até mais, pessoal!).

punch the clock: bater o cartão, bater o ponto.

•        You should have punched the clock yesterday. (Você deveria ter batido o ponto ontem).

push the panic button: entrar em pânico, entrar em desespero.

•        Stay calm! There’s no need to hit the panic button. (Mantenha-se calmo! Não é preciso entrar em pânico.)

float the boat:  ornar, casar, excitar.

-This t-shirt doesn`t float the boat with this pants.

it gives me creep: me arrepia.

-That old house gives me creep.

fed me up: Empanturrar-se com , se encher de.

-One Day I fed me up with coke.

-This cold weather feds me up.

piece of cake: Fácil.
